Isco: El Hombre Principal De España

Updated: Jun 20, 2018

Unlike at Real Madrid. Isco will be the main man for Spain at the World Cup. So much so that we at The Taylor Takeover think that he is a contender to be the tournaments top scorer.

Given the events of Wednesday 13th June involving the Spanish national team. Choosing Isco as a top candidate for the golden boot at Russia 2018.

Now before you dismiss the claim as being delusional. I ask you to hear me out….

Contrary to popular opinion. We see the Julen Lopetegui episode galvanising the Spanish squad. Our prediction is that this situation will see Spain make the final and put Isco in with a great shout of being the tournament’s top scorer.

Here are 4 reasons why we think that this is plausible:

1) Isco was Spain’s top scorer in World Cup qualifying scoring 5 Goals in 9 games.

2) A midfielder, James Rodriguez, was top scorer at the last world cup with 6 goals.

4) Neymar & Gabriel Jesus will share goal scoring duties for Brazil.

To be the World Cup’s top scorer, you will be required to have a deep run in the tournament. Provided Spain, as we predict, finish top of Group B, they stand to meet either Russia, Egypt or Saudi Arabia in the last 16. It would be an upset on the level of when South Korea knocked out Italy in 2002 if Spain did not progress from a game against any of those sides. Then, it would be onto a potential meeting with Argentina in the quarter finals. This happened last time Spain played Argentina. That would take Spain on to a potential semi-final meeting with Germany. When these sides met in March, Spain dominated the game and it took a blockbusting strike from Thomas Muller to rescue a draw for Germany. Then that would make a potentially dreamy final between Spain & Brazil.

Sounds quite feasible doesn’t it?

Isco is a wonderfully talented player who has not had a draining 50 game plus season and is coming off the back of winning the Champions league with Real Madrdi. While his club strike rate is one in three, which is still a great return from a midfielder, his return from the World Cup qualifying campaign is better than 1 in 2. Spain’s approach has always relied on a very talented midfield and with David Silva also providing goals in the qualifying campaign.

Do you think Isco will be in the running to be the top scorer at The World Cup?
